Welcome to GPASPUC
From as early as 2019, our four Founding directors: Dr Jennifer DY Sihoe, Prof JianGuo Wen, Prof ShouLin Li and Dr Kenneth LY Chung had already recognized the importance of cross-border collaborations and had gotten together on several random opportunities to discuss the various possibilities for the advancement of Paediatric urology in the region. It started off with the organization of the “Greater Bay Area Paediatric Urological Annual Conference” in 2019 in Shenzhen and Hong Kong. It was followed by another two successful meetings in 2020 and 2021 after which, The Greater Bay Area Society of Paediatric Urology was finally successfully registered as a charitable organization registered under the Company Ordinance in Hong Kong in 2021.
The Objectives of the Society is to promote advancement of knowledge and research in paediatric urology through collaboration and exchange of knowledge between experts within the whole of the Greater Bay Area so as to benefit those children and their families in need of help.
Unfortunately, activities and growth of the Society were hindered during the COVID pandemic. Despite the difficulties, members of the Society worked hard to continue to take part in delivering online lectures in various conferences.
Now, with all that past us, the Founding directors had got together and decided to revamp and restructure the Society in 2025 with an aim to nurture the Society into something bigger and better and reach out to more professionals as well as the community to bring more benefits to all.
The first restructuring was in the name of the Society. To emphasis the growing importance of incontinence management in the community, we decided to adopt the name of “The Greater Bay Area Society of Paediatric Urology and Continence” (GBASPUC).
A new framework of governing roles was established involving more Board members to help expand the work we do and cover. This also includes setting up of 3 new subcommittees, namely the Urology, Continence and Nursing Committee.
The website and a new means of email communication was set up to allow better communication between members, in recruiting new members and disseminating important information.
The Society is still in its very early stages of development and we look forward to the support of all paediatric urologists in the GBA as well as to our international colleagues to make this a success.
